Tom has been surrounded by music and technology from a young age, being in a studio for the first time at 11. A graduate from the world renowned Tonmeister course at Surrey University, he has trained under many distinguished engineers and has studied and written papers on many topics within the audio discipline. He has worked as a studio engineer recording full scale orchestras, jazz ensembles and rock acts as well as producing a number of singer songwriters.
While studying Tom spent a year working at Purcell school, Britain’s oldest specialist music school, teaching music technology to A level students, both as classes and one on one tutorials. He also ran and maintained the studios and gained experience recording both jazz and classical concerts everyday including many unusual experiences like micing a vegetable orchestra and recording the only fluid piano in the world.
Tom also works as a live engineer, having worked with many acts including X Factor winner Leon Jackson, classical artist John Williams and up and coming rock act Lower than Atlantis.
With 14 years of experience playing guitar, dabbling in other instruments and studying music modules at university Tom is able to musically relate to artists and can help bring ideas to life in the studio.
“Whilst he had a strong direction for how the day should pan out, he remained flexible allowing the band/FTA’s ideas to be heard, making for a successful and enjoyable collaboration”
